TOP QUALITY MATERIALS

When you lovingly make mattresses that are the best to sleep on, as Schlarafia has been doing for 80 years, then you choose only the best materials for your customers. And you don’t skimp on that. The materials from which Schlarafia mattresses are made are of the highest quality: from the handmade Schlarafia wire core, through elastic heat-set felt and coconut fibers, all the way to different types of foams and covers. Although the difference cannot be seen immediately with the naked eye, it can certainly be felt. And when, after just a few nights of sleeping on the Schlarafia mattress, you realize that you made the right decision, the feeling will be even better.

THE CORE – THE FOUNDATION OF STRENGTH AND STABILITY

SCHLARAFIA HANDMADE SPRING CORE / SPECIALTY OF SCHLARAFIA

The heart of our mattresses is the handmade Schlarafia core. A commercial industrial core manufacturing machine produces 50 single pieces in one hour. The hands of our craftsmen make only one such hand-knitted core at the same time, controlling each thread and connecting the springs in detail and precision. With this in mind, it is clear that the properties of handmade mattresses are incomparable with those made on the production line.

The uniqueness of the handmade core is also reflected in the possibility that mattresses with a „heart “made of it can be ordered in any shape and size.

THERMO-SET FELT

THERMO-SET FELT with a high percentage of cotton in it provides maximum aeration of the mattress, it can be 100% recycled, does not allow moisture to remain in the bed and is very durable and elastic, and it retains its characteristics for many years. Therefore, it not only serves to protect the elements of the mattress, but also maintains the environment with its composition and ecological properties. And not only that, but this air-permeable layer is inaccessible to bacteria and fungi, which additionally contributes to a high level of hygiene, even in the deepest layers of the mattress.

COCONUT COIR

Pressed coconut (coconut board) is made from coconut threads that are connected with latex milk (from the rubber tree) and is a 100% natural material. It is used in the production of mattresses with a wire core to create a protective layer of the mattress which, as the word itself says, protects the core and ensures the longevity of the mattress. Pressed coconut is a material that breathes well and is extremely durable. This element also enables natural air flow, has no allergic potential, is 100% biodegradable and recyclable and in this sense meets all ecological criteria.

COMFORT – THE BASIS OF COMFORT AND COMFORT

HR FOAM OF HIGH BEARING CAPACITY

  • The foams that Schlarafia uses in the production of mattresses with a wire core and foam mattresses are indisputable in their quality and have no competition when it comes to the elasticity, durability and ventilation of the foam.
  • These foams have exceptional ventilation and excellent thermal properties – moisture is not retained and the foam is inhospitable to bacteria and mites.
  • Foams differ in density and raw material composition. And while the majority of mattresses use polyurethane foam (actually a sponge) with a density of 25 kg/m³, in Schlarafia, foams with a density of 35 kg/m³ and up to 65 kg/m³ are used.
  • We at Schlarafia do not use ordinary, everyday polyurethane foams, and you will not come across sponges in our products.
  • HR foam (high resilience foam) is polyurethane foam with high elasticity and durability. This kind of sleeping pad is pleasant because it provides excellent microclimatic conditions during sleep. Of all the foams, it is the HR foam that returns to its original state the fastest after compression. Why is this important? The quality of the foam material can be evaluated according to several criteria: density, elasticity, air permeability.
  • We use foams of increased density, so our foams are more than 70% denser than classic foams, which contributes to the longevity of the mattress. Because of this, Schlarafia mattresses do not change their properties for a long time.
  • The elasticity of the foam, on the other hand, is proportional to the comfort provided by the base. The foams that we install in Schlarafia mattresses have a high degree of elasticity and adaptability to your usual sleeping positions.
  • We in Schlarafia use 100% air-permeable foams (produced in “open cell” technology), which ensures excellent airing of the mattress.

In a series of previous years, in repeated tests, we have come to the ideal thickness of HR foam, which, in addition to its high density, provides all the mentioned properties.

MEMORY FOAM – TREND OR REAL BENEFIT?

MEMORY FOAM, an innovation constructed at NASA, has long been an absolute trend that, like many revolutionary products, was promoted as something that would be a permanent solution. Over time, this highly elastic foam began to gain more and more opponents who dissuaded the public from buying sleeping products based on memory foam. This anti-campaign led in a period of just a few years to a turnaround in the market, so customers who once flocked to buy everything with MEMORY in its name are now oriented towards old, more traditional materials.

So, what is the truth when it comes to the usefulness of MEMORY foam? This is certainly a modern material whose main feature is that it adapts to the shape of the object that exerts pressure on it (in this case, the body of the sleeper) at a temperature that corresponds to the body temperature. Also, due to its much higher density than standard foams, this material promises exceptional durability and longevity. However, a large number of sleepers who used inexpertly created products rich in MEMORY layer complained about the feeling of sweating, about problems in the neck area, about the feeling of “sinking like in mud”, so the foam, with a strong anti-campaign, paradoxically became synonymous with discomfort.

In fact, it is true that MEMORY is an excellent, superior material, but only if its thickness and position in the mattress are optimized so that it’s best properties are extracted from that layer. After a long period of testing and many pilot models, we at the Schlarafia sleeping system have created an ideal ratio of thickness of the MEMORY layer, but taking into account its shortcomings, we have supplemented the comfort layer with other foams creating the so-called “comfort gradient”. The comfort layer created in this way gives you the best of MEMORY foam, which is pleasant sinking comfort, without the accompanying effect of softness that “traps” you, precisely because it is continued by a layer of denser HR foam and finally a strong handmade core that provides strong support to the whole the mattress.

LATEX FOAM

Visco-elastic LATEX FOAM, which is a natural derivative of the rubber tree, is characterized by a high density that guarantees exceptional comfort. It is actually milky juice, obtained by cutting this tropical plant from the Amazon and Asia, which undergoes a technological process in which, during a series of successive reactions, a material with a perforated honeycomb appearance is obtained. These perforations provide comfort and ventilation.

Schlarafia mattresses are made of certified latex foam, which is entirely made of rubber with a density of 65 kg/m3, which speaks of excellent thermal properties. Also, moisture is not retained and the foam is inhospitable to bacteria and mites.

TALALAY 100% NATURAL LATEX FOAM | ONLY IN SCHLARAFIA

TALALAY is the only completely natural latex, a pure product obtained directly from the core of the rubber tree and contains small rubber particles in its original form. As a result of this extraction, natural rubber is produced. It should be borne in mind that natural rubber obtained in this harmless way makes up only 10% of the world’s rubber production and is therefore very valuable.

Sleeping on a mattress made of 100% natural Talalay latex brings numerous benefits:

  • The comfortable Talalay foam layer is completely air permeable.
  • This allows you not to be hot during the hot summer days, and not to be cold in the winter.
  • This ventilation prevents the accumulation of moisture, the reproduction of vermin and makes the sleeping environment clean and hygienically sustainable.

COVERS – PROTECTION, COMFORT AND HYGIENE

TENCEL LYOCELL

Covers made of innovative fabric containing TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers of plant origin are such that this material provides the best that the combination of nature and modern technology can provide: tenderness and softness to the touch, ventilation and moisture removal, inaccessibility to bacteria, electrostatic neutrality, and durability in repeated maintenance cycles.

CASHMERE

Cashmere, called the “fabric of kings” for centuries, has remained a symbol of sophistication, elegance and wealth. Even today, it is one of the rare natural materials because it is obtained from the lower, softer hair of Kashmir goats that live at high altitude in regions with an inaccessible climate. For these animals, that soft lower layer of hair serves the purpose of protection from low outside temperatures, which go below -40°C, and the hair is manually combed in the spring in order to obtain only 150-500g of cashmere wool per year from each living animal. Moreover, it takes 4 years for a cashmere goat to produce enough wool for shearing. Precisely because wool is rare and produced by a specialized process, and because of its quality and unique properties, it is still considered one of the most valuable knitwear in the world.

DREAMS IN CASHMERE…

Covers with interwoven cashmere fibers have a high absorption power, which contributes to good thermoregulation, moisture removal from the body and prevention of sweating of the sleeper. This kind of weaving has the characteristics of the lightest down and insulates better than standard wool. This practically means that you will not be too hot in the summer, and you will not be cold in the winter, because the cashmere weaving guarantees good thermoregulation of the bed. The lightness and air permeability as well as the natural structure of the cashmere yarn not only adjusts the ambient temperature to the sleeper’s body, but is also extremely soft and pleasant to the touch.

SILK

The discovery of silk dates back more than 3000 years BC when the cocoons of the silkworm revealed their miraculous ability to man, unraveling the threads that changed the course of history and humanity. The secret of silk production has been kept for centuries, and in the beginning it was under the strict control of the Chinese empress, and later it spread throughout the territory of China. In the dynasties that followed, the silk trade developed to unprecedented proportions, giving birth to the historically famous caravan transport – the Silk Road, which was more than just a trade exchange, but also included religious and cultural mixing.

THE MYSTICAL TOUCH OF SILK THREADS – THERE IS SOME SECRET CONNECTION…

Science has given a clear explanation why these threads are so valued – their structure contains protein fibers consisting of 18 amino acids, biologically compatible with those that make up human skin. This is why silk is so pleasant to the touch, and its ability to maintain micro environmental temperatures through moisture drainage makes it an undisputed fabric, especially in warm and humid climates.

WOOL

Like human hair, wool is a natural protector of sheep against external climatic influences, only much more powerful. This feature can be attributed to keratin, a special protein that is part of its composition, which is why the Mongolian sheep can withstand the cold of -40C, and the Australian sheep can withstand the heat of +40C. How is that possible?

DREAMS ON WOOL YARN – IN THE HEART OF NATURE’S GIFT…

The specific keratin structure of the wool yarn forms a barrier between cold and warm air, trapping the air between the wool threads in the mattress cover as a kind of protective armor, which creates a constant microclimate of the sleeping environment. In addition to being a thermally self-regulating phenomenon, wool also has the ability to let liquids pass bidirectional and thus contribute to the air permeability of the pad. In addition, due to its anti-static nature, wool minimizes the occurrence of electrostatic electricity and thus prevents night clothes from sticking unpleasantly to the sleeper’s body. Wool threads are hardly flammable and have excellent insulating properties.

BAMBOO

Intended for a narrow and discerning audience oriented towards natural recyclable materials, the “cover” layer dominated by bamboo fibers has many advantages.

What are the advantages of sleeping on this surface:

  • Mattresses with woven bamboo covers are ecologically oriented and form a narrow group of products that support the ecosystem
  • Bamboo is a raw material that is biodegradable
  • The cover with bamboo fibers is extremely soft and provides a light, silky feeling to the touch
  • Special weaving allows the material to “breathe” and on hot days provides an ambient “cooling” effect
  • It has an excellent regulation of moisture removal from the sleeper’s body, which enables a peaceful and undisturbed sleep
  • Due to its specific composition, it prevents the development of bacteria and prevents unpleasant odors in the bed
