EXCEPTIONAL FEATHER & DOWN COLLECTION by Schlarafia | FOR THOSE WITH REFINED TASTE
DUVET FILLING | ARCTIC EIDER DUCK FEATHER AND DOWN
The most valuable feathers and down come from northern birds that inhabit the Arctic climate. The colder the climate in which the goose/duck lives, the higher the quality of the feathers. At Schlarafia, we have utilized this evolutionary creation of nature to provide uncompromising comfort and warmth throughout all seasons.
The Eider, an Arctic duck, inhabits the coastlines of Northern Europe, Alaska, and eastern Siberia. It breeds in the Arctic, but its colonies are mostly found further south. It is a good flyer and can reach speeds of up to 114 km/h (71 mph). Females nest close to water, lining their nests with down from their own chests, showcasing the powerful thermo-insulating properties of this material.
Eider duck down is highly valued due to its difficulty in collection. The gathering process only takes place after the nests have been abandoned, ensuring the birds and their offspring are not harmed, making it exceptionally precious.
The ARCTIC SHIELD luxury duvet is entirely filled with Eider duck down.
FILL POWER | 170mm
The “lofting” ability, or fill power, measures the efficiency and provides information about the quality of down. Fill power assesses the content’s ability to fill the shell (pockets of the duvet) by forming air pockets and regaining its original shape after compression. This ability is directly related to warmth – down with good fill power consistently forms air pockets, thereby retaining and absorbing heat.
WARMTH LEVEL | 3
Duvets with down filling are three times warmer compared to synthetic duvets.
There are duvets with different warmth levels. ARCTIC SHIELD duvet has a warmth level 3, making it an ideal cover throughout the year in our conditions.
- Level 4 (WINTER) – extremely strong preservation of body heat (for very cold rooms);
- Level 3 (AUTUMN) – suitable for room temperature of 18°C – 24°C and sleepers who prefer normal warmth;
- Level 2 (SPRING) – room temperature of 18°C – 23°C for sleepers with lower heat tolerance;
- Level 1 (SUMMER) for a minimum room temperature of 24°C (a drawback turned into an advantage with Šafer).
COVER | FINEST BATISTE COTTON
THE IMPORTANCE OF HIGH-QUALITY NATURAL COVERS
Cotton is the best material for covers of feather and down pillows and duvets because it can be woven in a way to prevent feathers from escaping while still allowing ventilation and preventing dust ingress. High-quality pillows and duvets typically use 100% cotton covers. The quality of the fabric affects the insulation capability, durability, and softness of the duvets.
EFD by Schlarafia utilizes batiste fabric made from the finest cotton to create outer covers for selected products from their exclusive collection of pillows and duvets filled with rare polar birds’ feathers and down.
The lightness and breathability of batiste material do not compromise the natural properties provided by the finest feathers and down, which are used to fill the duvets and pillows. Additional advantages of batiste fabric include comfort and breathability, as the fabric can effectively absorb moisture and allow air to flow through it.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE | TO MAKE YOUR DUVET LAST FOR MANY YEARS
If you take good care of your EFD by Schlarafia pillows, they can last for a long time.
Here are some tips for maintaining the feather bedding from the EFD by Schlarafia collection:
- Treat them gently and carefully. Compressing them for storage can “break” the material faster.
- Use pillow protectors and pillowcases to avoid exposure to moisture and other elements.
- Regularly wash the pillowcases to prevent the leakage of oils and dirt.
- Avoid hanging them outside during rain or if you live in a humid area.
- Avoid going to bed with wet hair or a lot of facial moisturizer. This can be absorbed into the material, exposing them to harmful moisture.
- Over time, oils from the skin and cosmetic products can cause the surface to yellow and also lead to unpleasant odors.
All products from the EFD by Schlarafia collection can be machine washed at 60°C, but they need to be thoroughly dried in the machine and shaken after drying to ensure that the filling is completely dry.
